Short presentations with images

Here is my finished presentation with my chosen stock style images. I just showed the presentation and elaborated from my Written Personal Development plan notes. It didn’t take me long to present probably around 2 minutes and I feel I engaged with the audience well. Then I got to sit back and enjoy everybody else’s presentations, Which were all more or less exactly the same as each other’s.

Stock images

We have been told that we have to create a very short presentation highlighting the key parts of our personal development plans to talk about to everyone. Less than 3 minutes just what we want to achieve and a stock style image to complement our individual personal developments. We have looked at stock imagery before and I have a grasp of the concept. Personally it’s not the kind of photography that inspires me BUT to have some of you images archived on a stock site can be beneficial financially. Each image on the site can be used more than once for more than one different company, event, leaflet ect. And you are paid each time it is used so a slow possible constant source of income. I’m thinking this would be a good investment of time for future sally. Not now as I don’t have the type of images they desire but after uni maybe it will be worthwhile to spend some time creating some generic style stock photos and putting them into a stock library for possible future finance. Any way back to the task at hand I am going to re research the definition of stock photography so its fresh in my head then go and take my interpretation of a stock image based around my Personal Development plan .
Web definition
Stock photography is the supply of photographs licensed for specific uses. It is used to fulfill the needs of creative assignments instead of hiring a photographer, often for a lower cost. Today, stock images can be presented in searchable online databases.

Paul herrman Redeye

In today’s lecture we have had a guess speaker giving us a presentation. Paul Herrmann director of Redeye , a photography network, came along and gave an inspirational talk on what possibilities there are after university and how Redeye helps students with just about everything both pre and post degree. He started asking the group generic questions to see what types of photographers we were and what as a group are our fears and weaknesses as photographers. The mass answer was confidence! I am on board with this weakness too; I lack complete confidence in both producing and show casing my work. He carried on telling us that Redeye hold a “Hothouse” which he thought our group would all benefit from. It’s where Photographers meet and give short talks or presentations on a finished or working piece of their own work, to other photographers about to do the same thing. I do think this is a really good idea I would really like to attend one to just listen at first , I think it would be useful to see what other photographers are doing at the moment . See how they adapt to showing their work in front of a room of other photographers. The idea of giving a talk on the other hand is a bit daunting. I can see that if you had positive feedback from your talk it would massively lift your confidence but I feel already that showing my work in uni presentations leaves me feeling very vulnerable but as part of my personal development plan there is no need not to confront this . As part of the workshops for this brief we have one based around our portfolios. I feel like that on completing either a draft or polished portfolio maybe then I can attend a Hothouse and see what people think. Now I have more information on Redeye and what it does I am going to start looking into a membership (especially whilst I can still get student prices) and also keeping up to date with its website to see what’s going on .

Initial Plan

Here is the first draft of my personal development plan. I have picked four things I feel I need to develop on . Although adding estimated target dates for completing my objectives I feel that all four of the “developments “ I have below are on-going and should be constantly updated throughout my photography career. Photoshop is something personally I tend not to use too much as a photographer , I not particularly interested in post-production photo manipulation but if I learn more about the field maybe my opinion will change?

Personal Development Plan

Yesterday we were given our new brief, To create a Personal development Plan (PDP) .  If I’m honest at first I wasn’t very inspired by the potential of this brief. I can’t help but feel because we are now third years this for most of us is going to be our last year that we have full creative control and I was hoping that this year was going to be a great opportunity to churn out loads of top notch imagery . This is a 12 week brief giving us all plenty of time to construct the elements of our plans we want to do. It wasn’t until I actually started to write my plan that I got excited about the brief , It’s a great excuse to iron out the creases in my practice and get myself up to the standard I desire to be. As a photographer I think there are loads and loads of areas to personally develop, with technology developing at the pace it is, I find it easy to fall behind, both technically and my theories too. I haven’t even branched into the social media side of advertising myself as a photographer ( im not sure I fully want too)  but that is a possible idea and  there is a lot to do and little time before we graduate. We also have two major projects creeping up that will be extremely consuming so this is a great opportunity to confront some issues face to face and tackle them .
